Dr. Sabat is an expert in optics, as well as piezoelectric and optical materials. Specifically, he conducts research on measuring, understanding and enhancing the physical properties of a variety of ceramics, polymers, organic and inorganic thin films, single crystals and composites, to be used in functional devices and applications. Some of his research consists of quantifying all the material coefficients of piezoelectric and electrostrictive materials under various operating conditions, as well as measuring the electro-optic and thermo-optical behaviours in solid state materials using various experimental techniques. He also conducts research on laser-inscribed holographic nanostructures on azo-polymers, and their subsequent use in optics related applications, such as surface relief diffraction gratings, optical modulators and light waveguides. Furthermore, he studies the surface plasmon effects on dielectric/metal interfaces for producing a variety of sensors and biosensors, as well as for enhancing the efficiency of organic thin film solar cells. His research will pave the way for device engineers and manufacturers to develop applications in areas such as optical communications, automotive industry, aerospace, medical, vibration, noise and shape control, non-destructive evaluation and monitoring of structures, and many more...
