About the Department of Applied Military Science

Victoria per scientiam

The Department of Applied Military Science (AMS) in Kingston, Ontario is a component of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC). Its primary purpose is to support the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) by developing Officers and Warrant Officers (WOs) to be key players in the Capability Development Process. To meet its mandate, AMS offers two programs, the Army Technical Staff Officer Program (ATSOP), and the Army Technical Warrant Officers Program (ATWOP).

Both programs have rigorous academic and practical military components that focus on producing Officers and WOs that are ready to conduct all aspects of the Capability Development process through a broad base of knowledge in science, technology and management.

The increasing sophistication and complexity of military operations make it necessary to have skilled commanders and staff that can effectively use, maintain, and influence the acquisition of the right defence resources. The department provides these advanced skills and refers to the process as giving Officers and WOs “the AMS Advantage”.

AMS students learn the skills and knowledge needed by tomorrow’s leaders today. Our graduates understand the impact and benefits of new capabilities on doctrine and operational concepts, allowing them to play a key role in developing the CAF of tomorrow.

If you are interested in becoming tomorrow’s leader today, please talk to your career manager or contact AMS.”
